Welcome To Your Free Mini Course!
Welcome to your new hobby! I am thrilled that you have chosen Me and Sew It Academy to guide you along your journey. This FREE mini-is designed to be digestible lessons as to not overwhelm you. Don't feel pressured to do these lessons every day; simply return to them as you have the time.
Many new students feel they have to consume an entire lesson in a day or finish a project in a day when they start sewing, but the easiest way to learn without getting overwhelmed is to set a timer. Brittany J. Jones, an instructor in SIA practices “Sew In 30” when she is short on time. Set your timer to 30 min and work through as much as we can until your time runs out.
The Truth
It took me a long time to realize the truth: creativity is a gift that doesn't always have an 'on' switch...There will be days when you don't feel like sewing or learning; there will be times when you simply want to give up but don't. You can do this, and trust me when I tell you I sucked when I first started sewing, BUT I also didn't have a Mimi G or a Brittany J to walk me through the process; you do! So work at your pace, take your time, and allow yourself grace.

Day One
Ok, today we are just covering intros, what to expect, and some key takeaways to remind you that you CAN do this! Remember although this mini course is set up in days don't feel pressured, the days are only a way to keep the course organized, work through the videos at your pace.

Day Two
In today's video, I go over my sewing machine picks and their parts and functions. All sewing machines, unless vintage, practically have the same basic functions. There are some features in these two machines that I feel are very helpful for beginners, which is why I selected them.

Now that we have covered sewing machines and their parts and functions, let's talk about supplies. This video lesson covers a lot of supplies. However, in the video, I mention which supplies are a must and which ones you can live without so you can decide. I have included a link to my Amazon store, where I have all the supplies mentioned so you can avoid having to search for them. Amazon Link

Day Three
You may not believe this but sewing in a straight line is the most critical first step you MUST learn. You might think, “That sounds easy,” but in fact, it's one of the things new students struggle with, so in this course, I teach you how to sew in a straight line using our printouts, which you will download below. Take your time and don't forget to breathe lol. Also if you are wondering we will be sewing in the straight line without your machine being threaded. In the next days lesson we will learn how to thread it.

Makes sure to take some time and do the homework, the more you practice the better you will be.
Day Four
Threading your sewing machine can be a bit confusing at first but once you realize that most sewing machines have a number guide right on them all you need to do is follow it. In the lesson below I cover how to thread your machine and fill your bobbin. I also cover troubleshooting because most times if there is an issue with your machine it most likely has to do with your machine being threaded incorrectly.

Day Five
Seamlines, Seam Allowances & Backstitching: Learning these three things will be instrumental because you will need to know them and do them every time you sew! Seamlines, seam allowances and backstitching are part of the 20% off skills you will learn first.

Day Six
Ok let's make our first project. This easy project will help you further practice stitching in a straight line. Let's first start by covering cutting tools and the importance of pressing.

Before we start our project you will need to click the link below and download the project pattern. This will print one letter size page.

Now that you have learned the basics it's time to expand on your knowledge and start learning how to make your own clothes! Sew It Academy has so much to offer and each month you will enjoy a new course and pattern.
Sew It Academy Membership is just $11.97 per month and currently has over 90 courses to choose from. We also add a new course monthly with pattern and there is no commitment, you can cancel at anytime.
